Place Entries anywhere in the EAC-CPF use a re-usable component that incorporates the geonames.org APIs for modern places and nomisma.org and pleiades.stoa.org APIs for ancient ones. Note: the geonames APIs require an API key, which can be inserted in the settings page. Geonames places are presented in AACR2 form.
When a Place Entry is inserted, the user has four radio buttons to choose from: the three APIs listed above and local vocabulary. Geonames, Nomisma, and Pleiades options provide the user with a search box to query the associated collection. Selecting a place from the list inserts the URI as a @vocabularySource attribute.
When the EAC-CPF record is published, point or polygonal coordinates are extracted from the source for mapping applications or generating KML for the public view of the record.
